6. Conclusion and outlook

Despite scientific proof of the olfactory detection and recognition performance of the dogs in the SDPTS-DCPJ odorology group, and the strict application of validated and proven procedures, there is still sometimes a lack of understanding of this human odor identification technique. By showing that dogs trained according to the SDPTS-DCPJ protocol make no recognition errors, the study carried out by the CNRS and the odorology group proves that these training and continuous training procedures lead to reliable and reproducible identification performances that can be considered by all magistrates as scientific evidence that has been formally validated by the scientific community, in the same way as papillary print or DNA identifications.
