9. Photo-patch test on humans
This test has been developed to confirm the absence of photosensitizing potential of a substance or mixture, after repeated application under a dressing and exposure to UV light.
The duration of the study is six to eight weeks. The test is carried out under the supervision of a dermatologist.
The test has not been validated by the OECD, but is often used in cosmetics as an alternative to animal testing.
9.1 Induction
The product is applied under an occlusive or semi-occlusive dressing (depending on its composition) for 24 hours on the volunteers' backs, twice a week for three consecutive weeks.
UV exposure at a slightly erythematogenic dose is performed after each dressing removal....
