1. Measuring airport traffic

Several parameters, which we present here, characterize airport traffic.

1.1 Movements

Airport traffic can be characterized by the number of aircraft movements.

Since a movement consists of a take-off or landing, an aircraft on a stopover therefore generates two movements. In addition, the movements of commercial aviation, travel aviation and light and sport aviation should be assessed separately.

The number of annual movements thus gives an overall characteristic of the aerodrome in question. Large airports, for example, record over 400,000 commercial movements.
