A few basic rules of aesthetics

Architectural analysis of a large number of bridges has led to the proposal of certain rules that need to be respected in order to create harmonious forms. However, it is not possible to lay down permanent and universal rules of aesthetics, as they are, at least in part, a function of fashion, technical developments and economic imperatives, and are neither sufficient, nor perhaps always necessary.

Each project is unique and requires its own specific solution. Each technical choice must be confronted with architectural requirements in order to find the best solution and the best compromise between geometric, functional and landscape requirements, and to ensure the aesthetic durability of the structure. This approach is the result of a shared responsibility and sensitivity between the engineer and the architect.
