6. Coatings

We will only deal here with metallic and organic coatings.

Mineral phosphate coatings have already been discussed.

6.1 Metallic coatings

In the case of metal coatings, however, a wide range of metals and alloys can be applied.

In most cases, coatings are designed to act as a barrier to corrosion.

The most commonly used coating is galvanizing, which involves hot-dipping in a bath of molten zinc.

  • Hot-dip galvanizing

    Processing is generally continuous for wire, but can be dipped for parts.

    Beforehand, the wire is cleaned to remove lubrication residues...
