4. Mechanical properties after wire drawing
The mechanical characteristics taken into account on drawn wire are, more generally, those of tension and, in special cases, those of hardness, alternate bending, torsion and, more rarely, fatigue (in other stress modes).
As the wire hardens, its yield point (Re or Rp02) and strength (Rm) or hardness characteristics increase. Generally speaking, however, and with a few exceptions as we shall see later, its ductility characteristics (elongation (A), tensile strength (Z), resistance to alternate bending and torsion) decrease.
