5. How are eye irritation tests conducted?

5.1 In vivo" test on albino rabbit eyes

OECD test no. 405: Acute irritant/corrosive effect on eyes.

  • Application of 0.1 g of product in the conjunctival cul-de-sac of one eye of three albino rabbits. The second eye served as a control.

  • Rating of the intensity of effects according to a scale (erythema and palpebral edema, congestion of the iris and corneal abrasion)
