INTRODUCTION
In the context of hazard studies (EDD), the BLEVE phenomenon generally constitutes a major accident, the effects of which have a significant impact on urban development. Following tragic accidents such as that at Feyzin (1966 – France) and San Juanico, near Mexico City (1984 – Mexico), industrialists have drawn on accident experience to implement appropriate risk management measures to prevent this phenomenon. However, to ensure the relevance of the MMRs in place on a site, it is imperative to :
understand the physics of the phenomenon ;
know the main causes likely to lead to this phenomenon;
be familiar with the MMRs traditionally used to prevent this phenomenon.
Furthermore, to estimate the effects associated with a BLEVE of flammable liquefied gas, it is necessary to know the models recommended by the Administration.
