Leaders express a strong desire to influence and direct others. They enjoy taking on responsibility.
There are autocratic and democratic leaders.
The autocratic leader tends to centralize authority, impose work methods, make unilateral decisions and limit employee participation.
The democratic leader, on the other hand, seeks to involve his colleagues in the decision-making process. He will delegate his authority, encourage consultation in the development of work methods and the definition of objectives. He will motivate his staff by relying on their feedback.
Two categories of democratic leader can be identified: the consultative democratic leader and the participative democratic leader.
