2. The definition of innovation
Given the different realities covered by the concept of innovation, and in order to provide a clearer framework for the content of this fact sheet, we have chosen the definition of innovation given by the OECD in its third edition of the Oslo Manual (2005), which largely summarizes its different dimensions:
"An innovation is the implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or service) or process, a new marketing method or a new organizational method in business practices, workplace organization or external relations."
This OECD definition implies that an innovation introduced by a company is a major change in the characteristics of a product, service, process or organization, which may or may not be perceived by the direct customer or end user.
