1.1 Innovation: a multifaceted concept covering a wide range of realities
While the term "innovation" is frequently used both in business and in the media, establishing a universally shared meaning remains a delicate exercise. Indeed, innovation is polysemous, due to the diversity of the sciences and professions involved, and the variability of the perimeters taken into account in the definitions devoted to it.
The etymological origin of this word can be found in "new" or "novelty". However, the term innovation is rarely used on its own, and is associated with other terms or concepts such as "incremental versus disruptive innovation", "economic value", "usage or business model".
