A structure established in an operating world abhors risk. Most, if not all, processes have been defined precisely to reduce risk. An operator dreams of having everything under control, so that processes run smoothly and nothing disrupts purchasing, manufacturing, sales, invoicing and so on.

In the new, fast-growing entity, few processes have been brought under control, sometimes simply because of a lack of data or experience. It's not just a lack of resources, as you might think. For example, on a manufacturing process, the more you produce, the more data you have enabling you to understand the role of each variable and therefore to bring each variable under control. It's not with just a few objects produced that you know enough to ensure that all parameters are under control.
