2. Define an observation protocol

Defining an observation protocol necessarily involves defining the objectives of the observation. What do you want to measure, quantify and achieve with this observation, and why? In what context do you want to carry out this observation? Who do you intend to observe, and doing what? Knowing precisely these elements will enable you to define a set of observation variables, whether qualitative or quantitative.

More generally, you'll be observing an object or series of objects (in the broadest sense), manipulated by a user with a certain behavior, all in an environment where other objects and characters are probably present. To accurately size your observation, you need to look in detail at :
