You need to be transparent with your board, particularly when it comes to the budgets to be implemented, and the fact that, once decided, the budget for an exploration must be considered lost, as well as progress and difficulties... You need to use this board to educate your organization about intrapreneurship. Adventures are still very risky, and you shouldn't expect them all to succeed.
