6. Monitoring plant operation: contacts

The departmental prefect receives declarations and applications for authorization for facilities classified for environmental protection, and handles all the necessary administrative procedures.

From a technical standpoint, it relies on a Classified Installations Inspection Department, coordinated by the Regional Directorates for Research and the Environment (DRIRE) or the Interdepartmental Technical Service for Classified Installations Inspection (STIIIC) for Paris and its inner suburbs.

Classified facility inspectors are technical executives appointed by the Prefect on the recommendation of the Regional Director for Industry, Research and the Environment, and reporting to :
