Overview

ABSTRACT

Pollution and polluting discharges are at the heart of environmental risk concerns. At a time of potential drastic climate changes, the anthropic discharges of greenhouse gases such as the nitrous oxide have become a challenge for our developed societies. Technologies allowing for the reduction of nitrous oxide discharges are available. However, although significant efforts have been made, such as in the chemical industry for instance, more effort has to be made in certain sectors, such as the agricultural sector, in order to decrease N20 discharges of anthropic origin.

 INTRODUCTION

When it comes to environmental risk, pollution and pollutant emissions are a central concern. At a time of potential climate upheaval, anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are a major issue for our developed societies.

Among these gases, nitrous oxide is one that would have a significant impact.

This dossier attempts to provide a succinct overview of the general problem of nitrous oxide emissions. It is divided into four parts, covering the structure and characteristics of the molecule, its sources and impact on the environment, sampling and analysis methods, and the main technologies available to reduce emissions.
