3. Optimize planning

Quite often, project and customer demands on the timing allocated to project execution lead to an initial end date calculated by the schedule, which is not compatible with the contractual end date.

It is then necessary to optimize the schedule.

Various techniques can be used to achieve this:

• resource optimization techniques ;

• schedule compression techniques.

With regard to resource optimization techniques, we can implement "resource leveling", i.e. adjusting start and end dates according to resource constraints, to take account of their availability in the case of shared resources, for example, or calendar constraints, or to maintain resource utilization at a constant level.
