3. Surface treatments before bonding
The surface of metals is covered with several layers of products that are unfavorable to bonding (figure 19 ).

The aims of surface treatment are as follows:
remove dirt, contamination, oils and lubricants from rolling and drawing processes;
remove adsorbed layers (water, etc.) ;
remove more or less fragile layers (natural oxides, hydrated oxides) until the metal is bare and perfectly clean;
make sure the adhesive wets the surface well (see
[BM 7 615] increase surface roughness...
