5. Types of adhesive used for metal bonding
Structural and semi-structural adhesives have been studied in detail in the following articles and and we will therefore confine ourselves here to listing the types and families of adhesives that are specifically used for metal bonding, detailing the knowledge required for such bonding.
5.1 Epoxies
Epoxy adhesives have been the most widely used adhesives for bonding metals since the late 1940s. We have over 50 years' experience in this field, especially in aircraft construction, which, being very demanding in terms of assembly reliability, has generated a considerable amount of research, testing and knowledge.
