 INTRODUCTION

Whether you're designing a new product or service, or redesigning it to improve it, you're looking to optimize the compromise between the demands or expectations it aims to satisfy, the characteristics you give it, and all the costs associated with its production and realization.

There are limits to the extent to which cost reduction can be achieved through purchasing and production methods alone.

The methodical analysis of product or service needs and expectations, combined with optimization of the way in which they are met, leads to an improved balance between satisfying needs and devoting resources to them, and thus to increased value and appeal.

This is the purpose of value analysis (VA). In this document, we will refer to products or services by the generic term "product".
