Are these techniques really effective?
These techniques are highly effective, provided you use them rigorously. Make sure you "soak in" a well-formulated question. Make sure the group is well constituted, follow the facilitation guidelines and scrupulously apply the processes described, and the "good ideas" will flow! Experience shows that failures don't come from the techniques themselves, but from poorly formulated subjects and badly constituted and animated groups.
Are there any other techniques?
Yes, of course. These are the most commonly used and are sufficient in the majority of cases. Many other techniques are simply variations on them. Another category is that of "projective" techniques, based on role-playing and the manipulation of objects, materials or images. These require specific know-how.
