15. CAI: definitions and examples

15.1 Energy performance indicators

Associated with the company's overall energy balance and profile for a given period (usually 1 year), the overall energy performance indicator (EPI) is calculated in relation to the activity representative of the corresponding energy consumption, i.e. the ratio between the latter and production, for example. It can therefore be expressed in kWh/tonne produced, or kWh/t raw materials, or kWh/linear meter, etc.

The EPI for an office building will be calculated in kWh/m 2 . It can also be based on the number of users (kWh/employee, for example).
