13. Energy Manager

To ensure that energy (and water) monitoring and management are fully effective in combating waste and achieving the best possible performance throughout the year, an Energy Manager (ER) must be appointed and report regularly to the decision-making level.

Energy management must be integrated into the company's overall management approach.

And as specified in the ISO 50001 international standard for energy management systems, "management must designate a representative(s) with the appropriate skills and competencies" and "with the responsibility and authority" to implement, maintain and improve energy management.
