2. Objectives

2.1 National targets

It wasn't until the 2005 law on the Programmation fixant les orientations de la politique énergétique (known as the POPE law) that quantified targets for reducing energy consumption through the Rational Use of Energy (URE) were defined.

A target for reducing final energy intensity (final energy consumption per unit of GDP) has been set at 2% per year up to 2015, then 2.5% per year by 2030.
