5. Allocate and manage resources

The company has its own resources, but can call on external resources (subcontracting, etc.).

The use of project management software facilitates the management of resources and, thanks to its simulation capabilities, enables the optimization of each activity in the work logic.

A resource is characterized by variables: quantity, availability and cost.

Assigning a resource to a task means devoting part of its calendar to the task. The proportion of this calendar devoted to the task is called the resource's task load.

For a human resource, the workload is measured in man-days (or man-weeks).

A resource can be assigned to several tasks within a project (or across several projects), just as several resources can be assigned to a single task.
